Hares are popular, and I share the fascination of this beautiful creature which one only sees on rare occasions and momentarily.
I discovered Belgian hares which could be kept as pets, unlike wild hares which do not tame. The Belgian hares are actually rabbits which have been bred to look exactly like the wild ones. I bought a couple which enabled me to make images of the real hares. I have made several over the years.
THE STARTLED HARE Three bronze images of the same hare – it is grazing, startled and flees. It is mounted on a cast of a small beam found on a beech. It is in an edition of 10 and is 62cm long.
