JULIET SIMPSON SCULPTURES

A 90th Birthday Present on a cold wet December day

An old oak trunk in a wood considered to have sculptural possibilities
The oak trunk falls
The trunk is fixed to a sledge of corrugated iron
The trunk and sledge are fixed to the quad bike
The trunk rolls off half way
The imprisoned stump left to dry out

I have monitored this small ancient oak trunk for years, fearful that if the wood is coppiced it will be thrown on to a bonfire. Recently it fell on to its side – a chance to examine it’s inside! Alas apparently only 25% hollow so VERY heavy. But I am about to be 90, surely my last birthday….and I have 12 strong grandchildren….It only needs a few….

A restored post installed in an iron clamp and named LIFE AFTER DEATH and claimed to be a sculpture.

Meanwhile this post has been cleaned, scraped

and treated with wood hardener.

Now it waits for inspiration.
